Born in London, lives and works in Vienna.
Brishty Alam’s works are invested with a magical, shape-shifting quality. They adapt to, resist and converse with their environments, and when brought together, they unfold their many aspects in gregarious and often surprising ways.
She works with slippages between scientific models such as chemical structure and natural history specimens, and what we might call social, cultural, political or economic processes. Themes such as migration (as seen in fish) and value systems (cultural, social, material, aesthetic) are the basis of her work, which finds expression in sculpture, installation, video and drawing.
Exhibitions include ZONE1, Vienna Contemporary, Galerie Wonnerth Dejaco (2023), On the New. Viennese Scenes and Beyond, Belvedere 21. Museum of Contemporary Art, Vienna (2023), Giveaways/Hideaways, Festival der Regionen, Lungitz/Gusen III Bahnhof (2023), The Ass in the Tiger’s skin, GOMO, Vienna (2023), MAAAAAAACH, Memphis, Linz, (2022), The Devil to Pay in the Backlands, Neuer Kunstverein Wien (2022), Independent Space Index, Vienna (2022), Ajker, Tati, London (2022), Flight Mode, SET, London (2022), Entre Amis Quatre, French Riviera, London (2021), Haus Wien (2021), Intersectional Commeration Club Risograph Reader #1, Berlin (2021), Bobsche Combo, Austrian Cultural Forum Warsaw (2019), Brishty Alam, Parallel Vienna Art Fair (2019), Fig. 2, Center for Contemporary Arts Celje (2019) and Stoff Band Nacht, Kunsthaus Hamburg (2017).
